Tulare cherries are a medium-sized variety, averaging two centimeters in diameter, and have a uniform, oblong, round, and cordate shape. The cherries sometimes have a small dot on the bottom of the fruit when ripe, and the fruits are attached to slender, green stems that are flexible, reaching 3 to 4 centimeters in length. The skin is semi-soft, taut, and relatively thin, ranging in color from bright red to dark red with lighter red spots. Beneath the surface, the flesh is crisp, firm, and watery, containing many fibers, creating a snap-like texture with a smooth, juicy finish. The flesh also shows varying shades of light red with a dark red ring surrounding the central pit, which is light brown and semi-dark. Tulare cherries are aromatic and have a bright, slightly acidic nature, creating a sweet, tart, and sour taste.
