Platerines are small to medium-sized fruits, averaging between 5 and 6 centimeters in diameter, and have a flattened, oblate shape with curved edges and a sunken center that surrounds the stem. The skin of the fruit is smooth, taut, lint-free, thin and delicate, easily punctured, bruised or damaged. The skin also has a golden yellow base and is covered with varied spots of bright and dark red hues. Beneath the surface, the golden yellow to white pulp is dense, watery, succulent, and firm with a tender quality. There is also a round, light brown central pit embedded in the center of the flesh that can be clingstone or freestone, depending on the variety. Donut nectarines contain low acidity and high sugar content, creating a sub-acid, honey-sweet flavor with fresh, fruity, and syrup-like undertones.
